Stories of My Life

My First Science Fiction Novel Cover Reveal!
When SF author John Scalzi was in town a couple weeks ago I was joking with him that I messed up my writing career with some poor choices. One of them was that, while I was nominated for the Nebula and Sturgeon Award for my science fiction short fiction, the first novels I wrote were all fantasy. I was (mostly) joking, as the Tommy Black series has sold quite well, but it was definitely true in some areas, as I have quite a few readers that are mostly fans of my science fiction. Well, the wait is over! My virtual reality science fiction thriller Thursday will be released on November 1, and I’m thrilled to death to share with you the cover!

The Thieves Guild Shenanigans!
I’m very excited to have The Thieves Guild now on sale in all major bookstores in both print and ebook. This is the first book in an ongoing series. Book two, The Burning City, will be available in December, and book three will be available in the first half of next year.
My publisher, Broadsword Books, and I are actually doing something quite cool. Rather than release the audiobook immediately, we are going to release a free full cast audiobook podcast over the next half a year, with the audiobook available next Summer. But no need to wait for the audiobook! Just subscribe to The Thieves Guild podcast and listen to the book just like a serial from the thirties or via a magazine in the 19th century… one cliffhanger chapter at a time! The good news is that you won’t have long to wait for each chapter, as they are released twice a week. In fact, you can listen to them right here:
The Thieves Guild Now Available for Pre-Order
I’m so excited for this release. Back when I was in my teens, classic fantasy by Edgar Rice Burroughs and Robert E. Conan saved my life by giving me a much-needed escape. I loved the rollicking adventures and colorful characters. Later I was similarly taken away by Charles Dickens and his ability to make me anxiously turn from page to page. I promised myself I would write a book like that.
This is what The Thieves Guild is for me—the series I’m writing to honor the epic fantasies I read when I was little. The Thieves Guild features all the things I loved—unexpected twists, colorful characters, the mischievous kid thrust into a role he did not expect. It’s just been so much fun to write, and now it’s available.
